The general lighting inside the coaches is provided by 110 V dc or 110V ac supply. The supply system is backed up by battery system 110V dc for self generation type coaches and Emergency battery back up 110V dc or 24V dc system for End On Generation system type of coaches. But during extreme emergencies like derailment and accidents etc. sometimes these supply system fail, causing total darkness inside the coach. To facilitate easy exit of passengers and their immediate rescue during such emergencies, this emergency lighting system is developed to provide illumination during failure of all power supplies inside the coach. These emergency lights provided inside the coach and on doorways would switch "on" automatically in the event of failure of normal supply system.
