Carbon Brush

Product Overview

With firm commitment to quality, we are engaged in manufacturing Carbon Brush. Used to collect current from the variable transformers of any voltage stabilizers, these products are developed under the guidance of experts to attain highest benchmarks of quality. Rich in graphite contents, these brushes also act as an lubricating material. The Carbon Brush offered by us is thoroughly inspected on various parameters, before dispatching to the customers' destination to leave no scope of defects.Benefits of Carbon Brush WE USE FLAT SLIDING CARBONS WITH TOROIDAL TRANSFORMERS IN OUR VOLTAGE STABILISERSAs we consider them superior in Technology overso called Rollar Technology & Column TransformersSome of the false claims of so called Rollar Technology rebuffed.Beware some manufacturers using Rollar Carbons are forwarding false and challenge worthy claims - claiming rollar carbons as superior to flat carbons in their product. They also talk of Flat Copper / More Copper / More Efficiency etc. In fact the ROLLAR CARBONS is an outdated technology and is used by only one manufacturer the world over - Brentford of U.K. and itssubsidiaries. In large capacity units - even they have changed over to Flat Carbons. In U.S.A & Germany - invariably all make variable transformers for use in Stabilisers - only in Flat Carbons and are latest in Technologies. The claims of local Rollar Carbon users stand rebuffed with our following technical explanation. In factor Rollar Carbon as on date is an outdated technology vis a vis Flat Carbons. WE USE FLAT CARBONS - not ROLLAR CARBON BRUSHES as we have a conviction and experience that they are far superior by PERFORMANCE & are preferable for Technical reasons. IN FACT - AS ON DATE, THE SLIDING CONTACT GRADES ARE SO DEVELOPED IN TECHNOLOGY THAT THE most vital end uses like TURBO GENERATORS OF AIR CRAFT , TRACTION MOTORS OF LOCOMOTIVES etc. which get thousands of KILOMETERS OF SLIDING ACTION, are only & widely used. Rollar Carbon has no place there.ADVANTAGE - MORE CONTACT AREA OF FLAT CARBONS :Carbon Brushes are used to collect current from the Variable Transformers of any Voltage Stabilisers. Some manufacturers use Carbon Brushes of ROLLER TYPES and claim advantages. We proudly use Flat Carbons and claim superior features over the Roller Carbon for our Types of applications.Geometerically - a Rollar - while moving on any surface makes just a line contact and this contact, has just area of contact equal to length of line . In Flat Carbon - the area of Contact i.e. the area available for Current Collection is equal to multiplication of length and breadth of the Carbons. The Contact area thus may be 10 to 100 times In Electrical Current applications - the point that is clear to every one is that more is the area of contact - better is the life of Electrical Contacts. Also more area available for current collection also means working of z Carbon Brushes at far lower Current Density and hence better life of the Carbons.ADVANTAGE LIFE & DURABILITY OF FLAT CARBONSThe Users of Rollar Carbons put forward an amusing Statistic that the rollar carbon life traversing is so many Killometers. In fact the Carbon Brush is subjected to millions of miles contact traversing and the measure given by some rollar Carbon users in case of servo Stabilisers is not even a pea nut in comparison. They cannot shadow down the fact that because of reliability and long life and superior current collection properties - these are flat carbons only which are used in Traction Motors, Air Crafts, Rolling Mills, Motors of Steel Plants and a Carbon Brush fitted on one Traction Motor - in one day itself traverses the path claimed by them. Under normal conditions of usage - the life of flat carbon is virtually 10-100 times and on any abnormal operation like that of short circuit etc. - the flat carbon further settles down without any un-noticeable damage and resets by lapping down on the contact surface - whereas the Rollar carbon will slip into skidding position and because of larger spanning contact further made available will further damage the winding.ADVANTAGE - UNDER SHORT CIRCUITS / OVER LOADSOn any overloads , short circuit trippings etc. the Carbon Brush falling in series with the line gets highly stressing current , almost a good half or so fraction of the Short Circuit Current - and the values of these short circuit currents and energies involved in these currents are quite large to the tune of 8-10 times of the normal currents. If a fuse goes off or OCB trips because of Short Circuit fault - the same current (half or so ) also passes through the Carbon Contacts. Blown Fuse is replaced or OCB tripping restored but the current through Carbon Contact - inside the tank - if any harm has been done , goes un-noticed and unattended. In such critical requirements - the area of contact of Carbon on the winding plays a very critical role. The Rollar Carbons are liable to get more damaged and tend to become flat at these operations - stop rolling and ultimately damage the winding and put the stabilizers with Roller Carbons to much repairs.ADVANTAGE - FLAT CARBONS - WE ARE NOT DRIVING A WHEEL & SO THE ROLLAR CARBONS- : OBJECTIVE IS CURRENT COLLECTION & the DURABILITY OF CARBON BRUSHES - SPECIAL GRADE CARBON used .The Rolling friction is lower than sliding friction. The rollar Carbon users visibly claim an advantage. This is not an advantage to be claimed as far as this Electrical Current collection application is concerned. You are not driving a dead load on Rollars. You have to carry current. The driving motors of the Variable transformers are supposed to be powerful enough to tide over any surfacial obstructions and the difference between frictions hardly carry any technical point of rating. Objective is better current collection. The CARBON BRUSHES are rich in graphite contents and graphite itself is a lubricating material. In a few operations, the Flat Carbons provide a small layer of graphite on the track and in all subsequent operations, the lubricated track is available to the sliding contacts. The friction losses completely get offset due to lower pressure in flat carbons. Also the Rollar Carbon holders are dragged up and down - through a linked iron chain and the sprockets of the chain are driven from a right angle drive and a screw nut junction supported at ends by thrust bushes or bearings - which itself eats out 50 % of the motor power - offsetting all advantage claimed for rollar drive. Sliding contacts have straight drive from the motor with no problematic intermediaries of chain, sprocket, screw & nut drives with thrust bushes and joints at screw ends. Simply on gear coupling is there with the motor and sliding brush arm. The terminal limit switches in Rollar type are mounted at extreme ends of vertical column arm inside the tank - where as in sliding contact type units, they are top mounted and easily accessible. The Grade of the Carbon Brush is of tantamount importance and Sliding Carbons - use special carbon brush grade developed by a German manufacturer - for these Variable Transformers and we import the same against our Exports. Wear and tear of this carbon brush is just 1mm for about 1 lakh opearations and we providfe 3 mm wear length - which is sufficient to last about 15 years of operations under normal voltage fluctuating conditions encountered in general power environments.ADVANTAGE TOROIDAL TRANSFORMERSRather the Rollar Carbon users using linear Transformers hide a very important factor that - they use Silicon Steel Strips in Cut Pieces to make Core Sections and all strips are placed at right angle to others - bringing in Air Gaps . In contrast , the Flat Carbons are moved on Toroidal Transformers which use CRGO in Strip wound form to drive Maximum Advantage out of much LOWER NO LOAD LOSSES that can be available by using Silicon Steel - without Air Gaps - with direction of Electrical Flux along the direction of rolling. The relative figures of No Load Losses are 5 - Linear and just 1 for Toroidal Transformers.ADVANTAGE - COMBINATION OF VARIABLE TRANSFORMERS & SERIES TRANSFORMERSThe design uses a combination of Double Wound Series Transformer & a TOROIDALLY WOUND Variable Voltage Auto Transformer. The combination of the two has a very basic advantage that the current handled by the Carbon Brush of the unit is almost half or so of the line current - resulting in lesser load and safe operation of the Carbon Brushes. Herein the SERIES TRANSFORMER - uses heavy Copper Strip Winding for the portion falling in Series with the line. For the Linear Transformer type unit - a manufacturer claiming the use of Copper strip in the Winding over the Toroidal Transformers type design - is just trying to mislead in somequotations. The Current faced by the Carbon Brush is almost double than that of the Split designed of the Stabiliser using Toridally Wound Variable transformers and both the ROLLAR CARBONS and the track of Copper Winding are more vulnerable to damages on loads than the Split Designed Stabiliser. The TWO UNITS ARE DESIGNED with Computer Software for accuracy in design. For any life long maintenance, two units are easy to service and provide more oil contact surface are for cooling. There are virtually no hot spots in the winding in such arrangement. Variable Transformer windings are single layer windings and thus the overloading capacities are about 10 times for a fraction of a second, five times for a minute, three times for a about 3 minutes, twice for about half an hour , and one & a half times for about 1 hours, 20 % overload for 2-4 hours etc. Series Transformers are wound with HEAVY COPPER STRIP for large sizes and regulating Toroidal transformers are standardized designs tried out after years of usage and having withstood field hazards and experiences.BRITISH TECHNOLOGY 40 YEARS OLD VS AMERICAN & GERMAN TECHNOLOGY - LATEST IN THE LINEIn fact Toroidal Transformers are the products of next generation over the Linear Transformers - are latest in Technology . World over all transformers in manufacturing are being switched over to Toroidal transformers. Basically The Rollar Carbon Technology is an obsolete Technology world over and is more than 40 Years old and of British Origin, which even in Britain - has been discarded in favour of flat carbons by almost all British manufacturers. The German and the American manufactures - all use Flat Carbons and Toroidal Transformers in their latest products. We have substantial exports and are in world market for selling our products for last 10 years and hardly any Rollar Carbon type Variable Transformers has got any foot space any where from any other world manufacturer. The Claims of Rollar Carbons here in India appears only Canard spread by a few drop outs and left out technicians etc. of the semi closed or virtually closed unit of Ex-British technology 40 years old started in this country. The Rollar type transformer can be wound on a lathe with no capital investment whereas Toroidal transformers - in their manufacturing need Special Toroidal Winding Machines costing miliion of rupees and such machines are out of hands of the claimants and sellers of Rolllar Type unit. Since they were perhaps first to tap the demand and field of large capacity stabilizers, they have an upper edge in sounding repeatedly - the coined word - ROLLAR TECHNOLOGY - as superior . With more knowledge on flat carbons use now being injected, more and more users are going in far FLAT Carbon units in their future purchases. In fact - FLAT CARBON Units provide more comfort and far less maintenance to the users in the field - PROVIDED of COURSE if the CORRECT GRADE OF CARBON is used.
