Disinfectant Sodium hypochlorite, also known as bleach, is most typically used as a disinfectant. It is a broad-spectrum disinfectant efficient against viruses, bacteria, fungi, and mycobacterium. However, sodium hypochlorite is ineffective against bacterial spores and prions. If your pool is disinfected with chlorine or bromine, you should test the pH of the water before using any cleaning solutions to confirm they are suitable to use in the pool. To avoid difficulties with poor sanitation, we recommend measuring the pH level of the pool water once a month. The best method to do this is to get a testing kit and collect samples yourself. Only use as a surface disinfectant in high contact areas and public restrooms, such as toilet pots/commodes, lids, toilets, floors, sinks, hospitals, and other hard surfaces.
