Sulphur, present in crude, is treated as a contaminant and is undesirable in fuel products; the governing regulations specify certain permissible limits and also mandate industries to minimize sulphur content in fuels. The refinery has a dedicated Sulphur Recovery Unit wherein sulphur is extracted through the Amine Regeneration Cycle run across various other units.
