Tarpaulins shield people and property from the elements like wind, rain, and sunlight. They're used to cover partially built or damaged structures during construction or after disasters, to confine and gather waste, and to keep paint and other dirty jobs at bay. In ancient maritime societies, sailors were known as tarpaulins because they slept on deck under a thick canvas waterproofed with tar. The word tarpaulin comes from the words tar and palling. The use of waterproof tarpaulins will be heavily promoted. However, some of the materials used to make these tarpaulins aren't waterproof (such as canvas and jute). These tarpaulins will be coated instead.
