Hyaluronic acid (HA) - linear structure; consists of multiple disaccharides of N-acetylglucosamine & D-glucuronic acid. HA exists in skin, ligament, artery, tendon, valve, synovial fluid and tissues of vertebrates as well as in some micro-organisms. In vertebrates, 50 % of HA exists between the skin cells and retains moisture in the skin & maintains skin elasticity & freshness. However, HA content in skin decreases with age and this leads to wrinkles & other visible signs of aging.
