Hand embroidery primarily involves five form of stitches i.e. outline, cross, satin, lazy daisy, and French knot. The outline stitch is a running stitch that involves only outline a design. The basic cross (X) stitch is used to fill the open areas in a design. It forms part of the overall design. Satin stitch also fills in open areas with closely worked stitches; however, it gives the appearance of satin. A lazy daisy involves making of small flower petals. The French knot is used to suggest small dots, such as eyes, pebbles, flower centers, and so on.
