Pusa Basmati 1718 is a new genetically modified seed from PUSA that is resistant to bacterial leaf blight (a disease that causes uneven plant development and withering) and, because of its shorter length, reduces flattening of the crop during rain, hailstorms, or high winds. It's a PUSA 1121 basmati rice seed with additional disease-fighting genes added to it. The innovative seed also has a greater yield than conventional basmati rice seed variants. The seed matures faster than other types of seeds (about 144 days). In a one-acre area, 8 kg of 1718 basmati seed produces 17-18 quintals of paddy, compared to 14 quintals of paddy from PUSA 1121 basmati seed put in the same area.5 kg of seed per acre of transplantation is sufficient; spacing (during transplanting)
