Clove, the Queen of Spices is nothing but a dry bud of (Syzygium aromaticum, syn. Eugenia aromaticum or Eugenia caryophyllata ) belonging to the family Myrtaceae. Its native being Indonesia is cultivated all over the world as an evergreen tree growing to a height of 8 a 12 mts. The buds are collected when in a stage of reddish terminals with 4 unopened petals. Clove Oil are used in Indian Ayurvedic medicine, Chinese medicine, and western herbolism and dentistry, where the essential oil is used as painkiller for dental emergencies. Cloves are used as a carminative , to increase hydrochloric acid in the stomach and to improve peristalsis. Cloves are also said to be a natural anthelmintic and the components active in clove oill are eugenol, eugenol acetate, iso-eugenol and caryophyllene. Therapeutic Properties The therapeutic properties of clove oil are analgesic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, anti-neuralgic, carminative, anti-infectious, disinfectant, insecticide, stimulant, stomachic, uterine and tonic.
