Ecomos is novel prebiotic poultry feed supplement. It prevents the invasion of gut mucosa by pathogenic microorganisms. Ecomos is naturally derived extract of glucomannoprotein complex form cell wall of yeast. Saccharomyces cerevisiae and brewers yeast is a food grade ingredient and fermentative additive in feed. It adheres to certain intestinal bacteria, including Salmonella, Escherichia coli and Vibrio species. (Once there), it inhibits attachment of these bacteria to the intestinal lining by blocking lectins, specific bacterial proteins. Bacteria with blocked lectins can not adhere to the intestinal wall and establish a colony. MOS can not be attacked by the bacterial species commonly present as a normal flora of small intestine. Besides, enteropathogens fail to utilize MOS as source of carbon for there colonization
