However the classification by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is widely used, where cashew nuts are classified into three main classes: a Extra Classa , a Class Ia and a Class IIa . This classification is made according to the allowed defects and the colour of the kernel skin. The main producing countries India, Brazil and Vietnam also have a classification. Grading a Grading categories for cashew nuts are not officially defined in the European Union. The most frequently used grading classification comes from UNECE and is also correspondent to the United States cashew nuts standards. In this standard, grades are defined by the number of cashew nuts in one pound (0.454 kg) or in one kilogram (for example 210 per pound equals 465 per kilogram).
