White field beans are a type of bean that is also known as Vicia faba. They are a cool-season crop, also called winter field beans, but not an actual winter-season one like winter rye since they will die off when the weather gets to about 12F (-9C). Bean plants grow quickly and can provide ready-to-eat beans in as little as two months. They are smaller than broad beans and are thought to be more vigorous and reliable than broad beans and show better cold tolerance, so can be grown as a winter or spring crop.
