Oxyfluorfen belongs to the nitrophenyl ethers, as well as nitrophene. It was introduced by Rohm & Haas around 1979. Brand names are Goal (Rohm & Haas) and Galigan (Makhteshim Agan). Oxyfluorfen is an orange to brown, hydrophobic powder. It is thus almost insoluble in water. Oxyfluorfen is little toxic in oral or dermal exposure. Inhalation of vapors may cause irritation of the nose, throat, skin and eyes. The hydrophobic character of the substance indicates that the substance can accumulate in mammalian fat tissue. The bioconcentration factor of the substance is quite high (around 1600). Oxyfluorfen is very toxic to invertebrates, fish and aquatic plants.
